That $12 rain poncho, $20 pin, and overpriced princess dress? You don’t have to pay it. Get ahead of park pricing with these must-buy items before your Disney trip to ensure the memories you make are happy and affordable.

Practical Disney Essentials to Buy Before You Go

1. Sunscreen

You know what makes your day at EPCOT miserable? A toddler with a sunburn. Don’t forget this Disney must-have because it’s a pricey gift shop purchase in the hotel or the Disney parks.

And remember, sunscreen has a “Use By” date printed on it. I scored sunscreen on markdown at the end of the summer at Target, getting a three-pack of aerosol bottles for just $2.99. Buy this before your Disney vacation and score major savings.

Heads up – if you’re traveling with only a carry-on, this won’t be an option for you. Make sure to put bottles of sunscreen into Ziploc bags when packing them in checked luggage. You don’t want any messy surprises!

2. Aloe Vera

Even if you regularly slather on the sunscreen, chances are someone will end up with a sunburn. It just happens. The excitement, the heat, the sweat. Be prepared by bringing aloe vera to soothe sore spots. I’m a huge fan of the kind that comes in tubs. Less potential for mess. A new find I love has been aloe vera wipes, perfect for us carry-on queens.

3. Rain Ponchos

When it rains at Disney, this magical theme park becomes a sea of Mickey ponchos. At roughly $12 per poncho, it would cost $72 to cover my family of 6 — an entirely unnecessary spend. I found heavy ponchos with reusable pouches for $3 (kids) and $4 (adults) at Walmart. The bonus was that my family stood out with our red and blue ponchos, making the kids easier to spot when we were walking in the rain or riding one of the you-always-get-soaked water rides like Kali River Rapids.

I also love these adult ponchos from Amazon. They call them disposable but they’re sturdy! You can use these throughout your whole trip without ripping them. In the spirit of keeping things dry, we also recommend looking at a backpack rain cover. Keep all your belongings dry with a bright cover that doubles as a clear visual for the kids to find you.

SheBuysTravel Tip: Don’t get really cheap and buy the plastic ponchos from the Dollar Store. They rip.

Disney Must-Haves to Beat the Heat

4. Misting Fans and Cooling Towels

In case you haven’t heard, Walt Disney World is in Florida. Florida is hot. In some months, unbearably so. It can get pretty toasty in Anaheim, California, home of Disneyland, as well.

Things we always buy before Disney to help with the heat? Cooling towels and misting fans. A misting fan can go a long way in lowering the whining levels of little ones during long wait times.

SheBuysTravel Pick

5. Water Bottle

Dehydration is a very real danger when it’s hot. Having a water bottle for everyone will help combat that. You can get free refills of ice water from any Disney quick-service restaurant. It’s one of the best free things at Disney.

Kiddo doesn’t like water? Bring a few flavor packets and turn that free water into lemonade or an electrolyte drink.

I love these water bottles that clip onto things. Even the kids’ water bottles with built-in straws have convenient carrying loops.

Disney Must Haves: Food

6. Snacks

Bringing our own food has saved us at least $50 every day we’re in the parks. Best part? You’re not surviving on granola bars. We’ve got a whole list of varied snack and food ideas. You can carry food into the parks. We like using a backpack cooler.

7. Coffee Options

As a must-have-coffee-now person, I know that the in-room coffee choices at the most magical place on earth are not super magical.

In the parks, you’ll find Starbucks locations, but the lines can be brutal. My husband needs coffee before he can get out the door and be functional. I always pack some instant coffee packs like Cafe Bustelo or even the Starbucks Via mixes. If you need an in-park pick-me-up, dump one into a water bottle for instant iced coffee. For me, a Disney essential is definitely a well-caffeinated parental unit.

If you are driving, never underestimate the power of ready-to-drink iced lattes. Bring a bunch. Stick a couple in the fridge and you’re good to go.

Disney Must-Haves: Clothing Items to Consider

8. Sunglasses & Hats

Our Disney essentials include sunglasses and hats for all family members. We always include a few extras. Our teen son has a habit of putting his hat into the mesh pocket on roller coasters and walking off without it. We jokingly got him this one and he STILL lost it!

9. Disney Pajamas

You can often score Disney t-shirts and pajamas at a steep discount. If you don’t want to head out of your house to hunt for deals, head to shopDisney.

10. Comfy Disneybounding Options

Think you might take part in Disneybounding? We love this super comfy skirt option. It comes in a variety of colors so that you can be inspired by almost any Disney character. Or go the full dress route with a vintage-inspired beauty that comes in a rainbow of options.

11. Slide Sandals

Remember when we mentioned that it POURS at Disney sometimes? My kids take after me and hate having wet shoes.

We always carry a Cotopaxi backpack. As soon as it starts raining, I pull out the slides and we tuck away their shoes to stay dry. They don’t take up much room in the bag and it stops a lot of whining. Plus, we’ll use the slides at pools and water parks too.

12. Disney Sweatshirt or Jacket for Chilly Nights

Even though the Disney parks are located in warm-weather states, you’ll be glad to have a sweatshirt or jacket with you once the sun sets. Honestly, this one isn’t even as much about the savings as being able to pick one that is your taste. If you wait until you’re there you’ll see the same Disney sweatshirt options in every store, and on everyone.

Disney Must-Haves: Cell Phone Accessories

13. Portable Charger

Disney sucks the juice from phones the way a toddler empties a Capri Sun — FAST. Bring backup power for your phone so you don’t have to search for a spot to plug in (or buy a pricey Fuel Rod).

When it comes to chargers, name brand really does matter. I’ve received a lot of the lipstick chargers and promo ones and eventually, they stop working, usually at the worst possible moment. I recommend (and carry) an Anker charger.

14. Longer Phone Charging Cord

Let’s face it, in the battle of phone charging cords at Disney, size does matter. Plugs are sometimes a little bit hidden, so the longer your cord, the better chance you have of reaching it. This is a convenience item that we highly recommend.

This pack comes with 6 (!) cords for under $12. I set the extras aside for when my kids steal my cords or claim they can’t find theirs. I also keep a backup in my purse and car.

Don’t want to fish around in your bag trying to find the ends of cords? Cord management is a breeze with these cord ties. Or go next level with this cord-organizing case.

15. PopSocket

Disney doesn’t allow selfie sticks, but there are other ways to take creative pictures of your family on your trip. With a PopSocket you can pop it out, lean your phone and take a cool picture of the whole group, including you!

I particularly love this one because it’s a combo phone wallet/PopSocket (and Stitch is my favorite). I like to bring at least my ID into the parks even if I’m using my MagicBand to pay. Looking for something a little cheaper? Try this PopSocket Kickstand.

16. Wireless Headphones Case

My teens don’t go anywhere without their wireless headphones–this includes Disney. Practice good line etiquette by wearing these when watching videos in line! Keep them contained in cute protective character-themed cases.

Disney Must Haves: Health and Safety Essentials

17. Masks

Masks are no longer required at Disney, but if Covid taught me anything it was that people are gross. I usually have one on hand just in case a symphony of sneezing, coughing, snarfling and phlegm gymnastics happens in a confined space.

And on the topic of masks, do yourself a favor. Bring mints or gum to keep everything fresh and pleasant whether you’re wearing a mask or not. You can’t buy gum at Disney!

18. Friction Stick

What is a friction stick, you might be asking? Have you heard of Disney rash? Ever been in a Disney planning group when people start talking about thigh burn? This will save you and that’s priceless. Basically, it’s like deodorant for your inner thighs and prevents painful chafing. It’s a must!

19. Hand Sanitizer

Keep sanitizer close at hand with silicone holders that can be attached to belt loops, backpacks and strollers.

20. Basic First Aid Kit

Yes, Disney does have First Aid Centers in the parks. You can go to them to get basics like bandages and basic over-the-counter medications, but it’s cheaper and easier to bring some basic supplies with you. I LOVE this container for medicines– it’s compact and sorts everything. It also works surprisingly well for packing stud earrings when traveling.

Most of the First Aid Centers are in the front of the park and blisters usually happen well into a long day. Save the pain of limping to the front and do two things:

Buy Before Disney: Fun Disney Essentials

21. Glow Sticks/Light Up Toys

When the parade at Magic Kingdom starts and every other kid has a glowing light toy or a bubble blower, you can guarantee your toddler will find them fascinating. Meanwhile, you’ll find the price to buy one at Disney mind-boggling,

At night, glow sticks and spinning light toys pop up everywhere. Pick up a few packs of glow stick bracelets, wands and necklaces for big Disney savings. These may not be “Disney must-haves,” but if you’ve got toddlers, you will definitely hear about everyone else’s glow toys. It’s fun to be able to surprise them without breaking the bank.

Want more than the plain Dollar Store offerings? Head to a Disney Outlet and still save money, even for the fancy light wands. Or buy them online ahead of your trip.

A quick PSA: You know your kids best. If you’ve got one that’s a bit clumsy, it may be worth the splurge in park for the bubble wand. Why? Well, if it stops working while you’re at Disney, they’ll replace it.

22. Disney Must Have: Costumes for the Kiddos

A favorite tradition of ours was our girls waking up at the hotel on their first morning at Walt Disney World to find a dress left for them by a “princess.” By keeping an eye on shopDisney emails, I am usually able to snag these on sale. Timing-wise, deals tend to happen before Halloween, between Halloween and Christmas and then around April. I’m eyeing this adorable light-up princess dress. How amazing would this be for nighttime castle pics?!?!

On one Walt Disney World visit, I spied the exact same Belle dress my girls were wearing for more than twice what I paid for it.

23. Autograph Book

A popular toddler and kid activity at Disney is collecting the autographs of various characters as you wander the parks or attend character meals. Autograph books in the parks run close to $20 for the cheapest option and go up from there. We made our own out of dollar store notebooks and Disney princess stickers.

Disney pin trading tips for first timers.

24. Disney Pins/Lanyard

Pin trading is a fun way to find unique souvenirs. It can also be something new to do for repeat visitors. Pins need to be Official Disney Pins with the Mickey-shaped backing on them in order to be traded.

I bought several at the Disney Store Outlet for $4.95 each to get each of my kiddos started. Another way to save is to purchase a starter set of pins to trade. You can also buy a lanyard. Unpopular opinion – I actually dislike the lanyard method. Not only were most too long for my younger kids, but the pins kept coming loose. We use small zippered pouches to sort. Each kiddo gets a different color.

Are pins at Disney a must-have? You can do a trip without them, but in my opinion, it makes the trip really fun for kids (and adults). There’s something about hunting down that perfect pin.

If you wait to buy pins in the Disney Parks, expect to spend at least $7.95 per pin. Lanyards run close to $15.

25. Mouse Ear Headbands

Getting a new pair of Mouse Ear Headbands at the park might sound like a fun idea, but have you ever exhaustingly stood beside a tween while they try on every pair and attempt to make up their mind? Save money, time and your sanity by grabbing Mickey ears ahead of time. Who knows, you might even be able to score a limited release that you can’t find at the parks when you arrive. We’ve also seen great deals on this Disney must-have at warehouse stores like Sam’s Club and Costco.

If you’re like me and have that one child who will repeatedly misplace them, buy a multipack of cheap ones for Disney savings. Your blood pressure will thank you when they suddenly don’t know where their third look of the day is.

26. Plan for Pressed Pennies.

We used to advise to pack change but times have altered that. Elongated pennies are still a Disney must-have that will save you on souvenirs. However, only some machines still take cash. The remaining machines take credit cards only. Pressing a penny costs $1. The credit card machines allow you to buy 8 presses for $5.

What Disney must-have should you buy now to save? The collectible booklets to put the pennies into. Pack one and pop the pennies in as you gather them. They’ll stay safe and you won’t be tempted by a pricier version in the parks. Have several kids interested? This 3-pack offers greater Disney savings.

What to Buy For Your Disney Trip: Advanced Disney Savings

27. Discount Gift Cards

The art of discount Disney gift cards is truly that – an art. Disney gift cards can be used across the parks for everything from dining to hotel rooms to souvenirs. Plan ahead and shop sales to turn your Disney budget up a notch.

For example, my local grocery chain, HEB, recently offered a coupon to buy $100 in Disney gift cards and save $20. Using my husband’s and my son’s mobile apps, we purchased $300 worth of Disney gift cards for $240. These deals tend to pop up starting in November and run through the Christmas season. Sam’s Club also runs discounted gift card deals.

In addition, you can purchase Disney gift cards at Target using your Red Card for an everyday savings of at least 5%.

Overall, one of the biggest tips I can give is to use a packing list! Print it out and check it twice for Disney World essentials. Nothing makes the cost of a Disney vacation skyrocket like items you forgot to bring.

Jock Lindsey’s Halloween Hangar Bar at Disney Springs, a limited-time seasonal offering, will be open only through November 4, 2025 and it’s brilliant. Here are my thoughts about the eats and drinks at this Halloween dining experience menu at Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs

Editor’s Note: The writer attended a media preview event.

Atmosphere at Jock Lindsey’s Halloween Hangar Bar

As soon as I stepped foot into Jock Lindsey’s Halloween Hangar Bar , I felt ready for the Halloween season. Festive wreaths, garlands, banners, and paper decorations adorn the interior and exterior, while metal chairs create a casual, yet welcoming atmosphere.

In typical Disney fashion, the establishment allows children and is kid-friendly. It does not have a designated happy hour, and there are no reservations – seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. This means that a line may form outside upon arrival.

SheBuysTravel Tip : In the evening, look for a table outside along the water for views of Magic Kingdom’s fireworks.

Jock Lindsey’s Halloween Hangar Bar offers a limited menu with light bites and beverages themed to the Halloween season. Most of the seasonal offerings are shareable and suitable for large families with adult and young children, as well as groups.

Cursed Mummy Sausages

I absolutely loved the cursed mummy sausages served inside a coffin-shaped dish that plays five Halloween-themed tracks upon opening the lid. While I’m generally not a fan of mini sausage rolls, the pomegranate mustard sauce elevates the overall flavor profile.

Phantom Dumplings

From the moment I caught a glimpse of these chicken and pork dumplings with the rice paper wrapped on top to look like miniature ghosts, I knew these were going to be delicious. I was correct.

Alien Invader Sliders

Fried chicken sliders on top of a black plate resting on a wooden table at a Halloween bar in Orlando known as Jock Lindsey's Halloween Hangar Bar.

The Alien Invader Sliders are a more substantial option as the order comes with two sliders made with Nashville hot fried chicken, provolone cheese and dill pickles on cheddar-chive biscuits, along with olives. These are one of the most eye-catching menu items, down to the cheese made to resemble alien teeth.

Snake Egg Surprise

A hand holding a purple mocktail beverage at a Halloween bar in Orlando which is Jock Lindsey's Halloween Hangar Bar.

While I don’t drink alcohol, I tried the Egg Surprise non-alcoholic drink made with lemonade, lime juice, pear syrup, and green apple boba pearls. I liked the magenta appearance of the drink and how the boba adds texture.

Is Jock Lindsey’s Halloween Hangar Bar Worth Visiting?

A menu along with a card saying Happy Hangar Halloween on a wooden table at a Halloween-themed bar in Orlando.
Menu and photo card at Jock Lindsey’s Halloween Hangar Bar. Photo credit: Jenna Clark

Jock Lindsey’s Halloween Hangar Bar is worth visiting if you’re a fan of themed eats in a thematic setting. That said, this seasonal menu is meat-centered, which may not make it the best option for vegetarians, who can still partake of regular menu items, including The Mayor’s Reserve drink and Air Pirate’s Cargo Loaded Pretzel, to name a few

Whether you’re on a family vacation to the Walt Disney World Resort or are seeking a bar in Orlando with themed eats and beverages for spooky season, Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar is a solid pick. Most of the limited-time menu items carry price tags between $14 and $17.50, which can make for a more affordable meal option when visiting Walt Disney World.

The bar is also a short drive, bus ride, or walk from Walt Disney World hotels and several other properties nearby, including Walt Disney World Swan, Four Seasons Resort Orlando, and Conrad Orlando at Evermore.

If your family is anything like mine, Disney isn’t just a vacation, it’s a tradition. As a Disney Vacation Club owner and mom of three, we’ve been visiting the parks since my kids were in strollers. Walt Disney World has grown with our family, and the Disney D23 announcements are exciting. This year’s expo brought some exciting information about Walt Disney World and how it could change your family’s future theme park vacation.

D23: What is it and why Disney Fans Are Obsessed

The official name is Destination D23: A Journey Around The Worlds of Disney, and it’s a multi-day expo that’s open to the public (targeting Disney fans), where Disney Parks makes official announcements. Walt Disney Imagineers, Disney Legends and special guests take center stage in engaging panels to reveal the upcoming park enhancements.

Obviously, the Walt Disney Company shines in its commitment to innovation, storytelling and creating new park experiences. The sky is the limit when creating memorable experiences. The hype surrounding D23 and the anticipation of the unknown announcements make it thrilling.

Are you ready to explore more Disney? Get your news here!

Cinderella’s Castle is Receiving a Royal Makeover

Cinderella’s castle, which sits as an iconic beacon of magic inside the Magic Kingdom, is currently shades of pink and blue (which was changed for the park’s 50th anniversary). Mixed opinions from fans make it a hot topic on social media. Still, Disney announced the castle is set to undergo another enchanting update, transforming its appearance with vibrant new colors and renewed charm.

The castle will return to its traditional shades of gray, blue and gold. The dates of the new design have not been announced, but upcoming family vacations during that time may include the castle under construction. Plan accordingly for your family’s must-do Main Street photos. Or plan a quick trip soon, if you’re a fan of the current pink and blue hues.

The Carousel of Progress Will be Updated

Of all the Destination D23 announcements, the Carousel of Progress update excites me most. This nostalgic family-friendly Magic Kingdom ride has been a part of Tomorrowland since 1975. The beloved attraction will receive a brand-new scene. A new Audio-Animatronics figure of Walt Disney will welcome Magic Kingdom guests and introduce the show. Don’t stress! Guests are still time travelers who learn that a great big, beautiful tomorrow is just a dream away.

More Details Emerge About the Villains-Themed Land

At the 2024 D23 expo, Disney Imagineers left fans in an uproar of excitement when they announced a new villains-themed land was coming to the Magic Kingdom. I’m in awe as we watch the development of this new park area, and one of the major Disney D23 announcements was about the inspiration behind the land.

Walt Disney Imagineers recently visited various global destinations to experience their sights, sounds and stories firsthand. Looking back at the influences that brought some of Disney’s most infamous villains to life onscreen, Imagineers traveled to Paris, France and Barcelona. There, they met with local experts and explored cultural landmarks.

Art Nouveau architecture will bring the villain’s stories to life, while creating an entirely new land for guests to experience. The official opening date for this land has not been announced, but we plan on this Magic Kingdom expansion to draw huge crowds. However, construction typically won’t interfere with family park days before its opening.

Tron Coaster Overlay Coming To Coincide With Movie

TRON Lightcycle, the high-speed coaster at the Magic Kingdom, is preparing for a ride overlay. Essentially, the ride remains the same, and no construction time is needed, but special effects make it feel slightly updated and different.

The new overlay is inspired by the upcoming Walt Disney Studios film, “Tron: Ares.” The update features the addition of striking red colors from the latest “Tron” sequel, releasing in theaters on Oct. 10, along with a custom soundtrack composed by the industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails.

This D23 announcement impacts guests the soonest. Starting September 15, guests entering the digital frontier will be transported into the “Tron: Ares”-themed version of the coaster. Weave through twisting tunnels of bright red and orange light trails. I recommend planning a trip soon because this ride overlay is a limited-time change.

There’s already countless reasons to visit Disney World, but 2026 is bringing seven new ones that you need to know about before you visit.

Disney has yet to announce official opening dates for some of these, but if there is one you know you just have to experience on your next visit, keep checking the Disney Parks Blog or Disney’s social media channels for updates.

Some are brand new rides, attractions and shows, others are updated versions of current favorites and all of them are going to make your next visit even more fun and exciting.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets

The Muppets are taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, including a new paint job on the iconic giant guitar outside the attraction. Photo credit: Walt Disney World
  • Opening date: Sometime in 2026
  • New or refurbishment?: Retheme from Aerosmith to the Muppets
  • Things to know:
    • This high-speed coaster may be too intense for young kids, but the family-friendly theme makes it a great option for their first “big kid” coaster.
    • Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster has a minimum height requirement of 48 inches and speed through three inversions.

When Disney shared that Muppet*Vision 3D would close its doors in June, fans of Kermit, Fozzy, Miss Piggy and all of their friends were heartbroken. Luckily, Disney revealed the same day that the Muppets weren’t leaving Hollywood Studios for good – they were simply “moving right along” to Sunset Boulevard and taking up residence in Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.

Since opening in 1999, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster featured music by the band Aerosmith. But, beginning in 2026, the thrilling launch coaster is getting a Muppets retheme. The track layout will remain the same (as will those super stretch limos), but the experience will soon feature Muppets characters and the Electric Mayhem playing hit music as you speed around the track.

SheBuysTravel Tip: Skip the airport stress — Lyft’s On-Time Pickup Promise guarantees your scheduled ride shows up within 10 minutes of your pickup time. If it doesn’t? You’ll get Lyft Cash. Zootopia: Better Zoogether

Large tree with animal carvings at Disney's Animal Kingdom
You’ll soon be able to see a new show inside the Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Photo credit: Tarah Chieffi
  • Opening date: Nov. 7, 2025
  • New or refurbishment?: Retheme of the existing show inside the Tree of Life
  • Things to know:
    • This 4D show is entertaining for the entire family and it’s a great break from the sun.
    • Technically opens in November, but unless you have a holiday visit planned you’ll have to wait until 2026 to catch the new Zootopia-themed 4D show inside Animal Kingdom’s Tree of Life.

Zootopia: Better Zoogether will replace the long-running show It’s Tough to Be a Bug!. Guests will still don 3D glasses, but the new show will feature Nick Wilde, Judy Hopps and the rest of the furry, scaly, feathered gang celebrating Zoogether Day. The show will also introduce a new character named Heidi Howler.

Heidi will serve as the host of a big Zoogether Day party, and just outside the theater, be on the lookout for a Nick and Judy meet-and-greet at the new Zoogether Day Gathering Spot.

The Magic of Disney Animation

  • Opening date: Sometime in 2026
  • New or refurbishment?: New experiences in an existing building
  • Things to know: When lines are long for Disney World rides, indoor experiences like this give you a blast of cool air conditioning and activities to keep kids busy.

Long before you could visit a Disney theme park, you could watch Disney animated films on the big screen. When it opens, The Magic of Disney Animation will allow guests to experience Disney’s most iconic films and characters in all-new ways.

Housed in the former Star Wars: Launch Bay location at Hollywood Studios, guests will encounter several interactive experiences within a recreation of Walt Disney Animation Studios.

Inside, you’ll find a “curious” playground inspired by Mary Blair’s concept art for the original “Alice in Wonderland,” character meet-and-greets and opportunities to draw your own versions of Disney characters.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

  • Opening date: Sometime in 2026
  • New or refurbishment?: Refurbishment and addition of a new show scene
  • Things to know: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has a 40-inch minimum height requirement. If your kid isn’t yet tall enough to ride, ask a cast member about rider switch so you don’t have to wait in line twice.

Big Thunder Mountain claims to be the wildest ride in the wilderness and millions of Disney visitors have barreled along the coaster’s tracks into its cavernous depths since the ride opened in 1980.

This classic Magic Kingdom attraction has long been a fan-favorite, but fans of the ride’s lore are about to love it even more. When Thunder Mountain reopens in 2026, the family-friendly coaster will feature a new Rainbow Caverns scene, complete with colorful phosphorescent pools, stalagmites and stalactites.

But, all is not as it seems inside Rainbow Caverns and you may soon realize you’re in for more than just your everyday train ride.

Millenium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run

Star Wars spaceship at Disney's Hollywood Studios
Kids will love flying alongside Grogu in this new mission. Photo credit: Tarah Chieffi
  • Opening date: May 22, 2026
  • New or refurbishment?: New locations and missions
  • Things to know: If your kids are younger, you might have a smoother (and more successful) flight if they sit in the engineer position.

It’s pretty much a universal fantasy to pilot the Millenium Falcon and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is the only ride in the world that lets you do just that. Riders can choose between being a pilot, gunner or engineer on this famous ship, helping to steal precious cargo from the First Order.

This interactive ride is a blast, but the storyline hasn’t changed since the ride opened. If you’ve been on this ride several times and you’re clamoring for a new challenge, you’ll soon get your wish.

In 2026, Disney is adding the ability to choose which location you’d like to navigate through. Riders can choose from Bespin, Coruscant or the wreckage of the second Death Star around Endor. The engineer, who historically had the fewest responsibilities during the ride, will also be able to interact with Grogu during the mission. That’s right, the Mandalorian and Grogu are being added to this ride, as well.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin

  • Opening date: Sometime in 2026.
  • New or refurbishment?: Refurbishment, including new ride vehicles and blasters.
  • Things to know: This ride has no height requirement, so families can enjoy it together.

Even if you know the location of every high-point target on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, your Galactic Hero Status is about to be in danger. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin closed in August for a major refresh, including updated ride vehicles, a new show scene and new interactive targets.

When it reopens, the ride vehicles will feature video monitors with real-time scoring updates and interactive handheld blasters with lights, sounds and vibrations for more accurate targeting (especially helpful for little space rangers).

The return of Cool Kid Summer

Guests dancing with Goofy at Disney World
Disney celebrates Cool Kid Summer at all four parks. Photo credit: Walt Disney World
  • Opening date: Summer 2026
  • New or refurbishment?: This will be the event’s second year
  • Things to know: Cool Kid Summer is geared at families with younger kids and offers tons of activities to keep little bodies busy.

Cool Kid Summer debuted this summer at all four Walt Disney World parks. It appears the event geared at families with younger kids was a success because it’s coming back in 2026.

This year, Cool Kid Summer featured family-friendly activities like dance parties, games, character appearances, magic shows and more. There were spots in each park for these activities and some were even indoors so families could cool off.

Disney hasn’t yet shared what Cool Kid Summer will entail in 2026, but any opportunity for young kids to see their favorite characters and get a break from the sun is a welcome one.

Should you wait until 2026 to visit Disney World?

Of course not! There are so many projects underway at Disney World right now that you might not visit until 2030 if you are waiting for all of them to be complete. Disney is always building and updating attractions, so no matter when you visit, there is always something new to enjoy.

If you visit before most of these rides, attractions and shows open, you can still enjoy many of Disney’s latest offerings like The Beak and Barrel, a pirate-themed lounge at Magic Kingdom, the Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away nighttime parade at Magic Kingdom, the updated version of Test Track at Epcot and the two new shows that recently opened at Hollywood Studios, “The Little Mermaid: A Musical Adventure” and “Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After.”

Every year Disney fans and food lovers descend on the annual Epcot Food and Wine Festival. While the first day is always bustling, the long-running Disney event has me coming back time and again during its multi-month duration. After visiting a few times during the opening weeks, these five dishes are the ones that I am eating over and over.

The 2025 Epcot Food Festival runs now through November 22. The Disney theme park has a little bit of everything for guests of all ages. While adults can enjoy a beverage around the world, kids can find Remy hidden amongst the countries.

Personally, the Eat to the Beat Concert Series draws me back as much as the delicious food and beverage offerings. A few bites, a cold beer and great music is a fun way to spend an evening.

SheBuysTravel Tip: Looking for the best place to buy Disney tickets? Skip the hassle and get the lowest prices with easy layaway payment plans. Click here to grab your tickets!

2025 Epcot Food and Wine overview

  • Over 30 food and beverage marketplaces around Epcot
  • Cuisines include French, Italian, Chinese and many more.
  • Vegetarian, gluten free and other options are available
  • Marketplaces tend to open around 11 a.m. each day.
  • Concerts are included with admission, but food and beverages are separate.

Are you ready to explore more Disney? Let us inspire you!

Flavors of America: Best Beverage and Meal Combination

Before a concert, I always enjoy a bite and a beverage. The Flavors of America marketplace is located steps away from the concert venue. This year, this stop offers the best beverage and meal combination.

I paired the New England Slider with a beer flight. The beer flight included Playlinda Brewing Co Pumpkin Cheesecake Blonde Stout, von Trapp Brewing Natur Helles Lager and Harpoon Brewing Flannel Friday Hoppy Amber Ale. While all three beers are delightful, the Amber Ale is the winner. The malty notes combined with the bitter hops is well balanced.

All three beers pair perfectly with the slow-braised beef pot roast slider. The soft potato roll allows the roast beef flavors to shine. Topped with the right amount of spicy giardiniera and a dollop of horseradish cream, it is the best sandwich on this year’s menu.

SheBuysTravel Tip: Order the Chocolate Pudding Cake for dessert. The Kentucky Bourbon Caramel should not be missed.

Sommerfest: Heartiest Meal for the Value

German onion cake with beer

A new offering for 2025, Zwiebelkuchen is available in the Sommerfest kiosk. Located in the back by the Biergarten Restaurant, this German onion cake is a huge portion. Personally, I needed to share the serving with my husband.

While the description says savory custard, the dish is more like baked eggs with heaping amounts of caramelized onion. To be truthful, it is a lot of onion.

The corner pieces with the extra crust were delightful. I think of this food as a combination of a pizza meets quiche. In some ways, it is a great dish to eat while enjoying beers or even after a long night out.

SheBuysTravel Tip: Sommerfest sells a pretzel bread pudding dessert. Not only is it delicious, it is one of the best priced desserts at Epcot.

Brew-Wing Lab at the Odyssey: Best Intense Flavors

Korean BBQ wings

The Muppets have been busy creating new flavors at the Brew-Wing Lab this year. A Disney chef told me his favorite new menu item was the Korean BBQ Wings. He was spot on with his recommendation.

While the gochujang infused barbecue sauce is tangy, it is not an extreme spice. I found the flavor approachable and a great alternative to some overly sweet sauces.

The biggest selling point with these wings is that they are twice fried. The super crispy skin gives way juicy chicken. It is a satisfying meal.

SheBuysTravel Tip: The Fried Pickle Spears pair well with the wings. The dill ranch can help temper any flavors that are too spicy.

China: Tasty Authentic Flavor

Chinese noodles with beef
Beijing Zhajiang Noodles. Photo credit: Cristine Struble

China’s marketplace can often be overlooked. This year a new dish, Beijing Zhajiang Noodles tempted me to stop and I was glad that I did.

Another larger portion for the price, the balance of beef to noodles was good. The noodles had just enough tooth to contrast the minced beef.

More importantly, the spice level was well balanced. Not as intense as Dan Dan noodles, it had a decent heat level. This dish would be a good choice as a late night dinner. It might not be the same as street market food, but it is tasty.

SheBuysTravel Tip: China has several fun cocktails. The Baiju Punch is a great option to try an authentic Chinese spirit.

Shimmering Sips: Picture Perfect Dessert

strawberry trifle dessert

It is impossible to say no to Disney desserts. While there are Mickey ice creams, chocolates and nitro ice creams, the Strawberry Champagne Trifle at Shimmering Sips is a must order.

Served in a stemless champagne flute, the layered dessert has just the right amount of sweetness without being cloying.  The strawberry flavor is bright and contrasts the luscious creamy layers.

Overall, this dessert satisfied my sweet tooth without making me feel guilty. While Australia’s Mixed Berry Pavlova was a close second favorite dessert, the Strawberry Champagne Trifle was the perfect choice to end my day at Epcot Food and Wine Festival.

SheBuysTravel Tip: Consider grabbing a O’ahu Sunrise from the Hawaii marketplace to pair with the trifle. The pineapple cocktail adds a tropical note to the scrumptious dessert pairing.

The post Why You Should Book a Disney Cruise This Fall — and What Makes It So Magical appeared first on She Buys Travel.

Whether you’re a Disney fan or simply love life at sea, chances are you already know that any voyage with Disney Cruise Line will be extraordinary.

Known for impeccable service, detailed theming, Broadway-caliber theater shows and postcard-perfect private island destinations, Disney’s cruises shine year-round. But if you’re looking for an enchanting getaway with festive seasonal celebrations, breezy weather, greater availability and lower prices, fall is the perfect season to book a Disney cruise.

Here’s why a Disney cruise from Florida deserves a prime spot at the top of your family’s fall travel list.

SheBuysTravel Tip: Skip the airport stress — Lyft’s On-Time Pickup Promise guarantees your scheduled ride shows up within 10 minutes of your pickup time. If it doesn’t? You’ll get Lyft Cash. You can schedule up to 90 days in advance and even lock in your rate. Use code SBT25 to save 25% off ONE scheduled ride to the airport.

Why Fall Is the Perfect Disney Cruise Season for Families

Since Disney cruises draw families with school-age children, itineraries during the summer (May through August), spring break (March and April) and winter (the weeks surrounding the winter holidays) are most popular.

But if your schedule is flexible, the months of September, October and November — and even early December — are some of the best months to sail on a Disney cruise from Florida. With fewer crowds and unique holiday-themed events, fall Disney cruise options include:

Sailing from Cape Canaveral (Port Canaveral):

Sailing from Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades):

Special Fall Onboard Events You Won’t Find Any Other Time of Year

From mid-September through October, Disney Cruise Line ships are decorated from bow to stern for Halloween on the High Seas cruises, and then again starting in early November for Very Merrytime sailings.

In addition to the year-round inclusions offered on a Disney cruise (such as themed dining venues, Broadway-caliber shows and fireworks at sea), these unique holiday sailings include additional deck parties, themed activities (such as trick-or-treating) and Disney characters dressed in Halloween costumes or festive holiday attire.

SheBuysTravel Tip: Don’t miss the special seasonal treats on holiday sailings, like spooky-themed gelato flavors during Halloween on the High Seas or hot cocoa and cookie stations during Very Merrytime sailings.

The Weather Advantage: Sunny Days Without the Summer Heat

Swimmers swim in beautiful aquamarine water on Disney Cruise Line's private island Castaway Cay in the Bahamas.
Fall in the Bahamas brings sunny, cooler weather that’s still comfortable for swimming. Pictured: swimmers at Disney Cruise Line’s private island destination Castaway Cay. Photo credit: Linnea Bailey

As a Floridian who has been sailing from the Sunshine State for years, I’ll be the first to admit that summers in the Bahamas and Caribbean can be hot. While the multiple pools and water play areas aboard Disney ships provide respite from the heat (like my personal favorite: Disney Wish’s AquaMouse Water Slide!), autumn brings clear skies and cooler temperatures, while remaining warm enough for swimming and water activities.

Yes, fall is also hurricane season (which runs through November 30), though the chances of a cruise being impacted by weather are low. If a storm is brewing, cruise lines have the flexibility to alter the cruise itinerary to avoid the severe weather.

How Fall Sailings Can Save You Money

Guests sit at a bar in a Bayou-themed lounge (with a ceiling adorned with flowers and foliage) aboard a Disney cruise ship.
The specialty-priced ‘drink of the day’ can be purchased from any server or bar, including The Bayou, a casual New Orleans-inspired lounge aboard Disney Wish (pictured). Photo credit: Linnea Bailey

Fall Disney Cruise Line sailings are generally more affordable due to lower demand during back-to-school season and hurricane season, leading to lower prices and fewer crowds.

And a bonus: all the “extras” for themed holiday sailings are included in the price of the cruise, which adds considerable value. During Halloween on the High Seas sailings, this includes activities like Mickey’s Mouse-querade costume party, themed trivia and crafts and Halloween movies. During Very Merrytime cruises, it includes events like Mickey and Minnie’s holiday party, a tree-lighting ceremony and appearances by Santa Claus. Disney’s private island Castaway Cay is even transformed with “snow” and a Christmas tree.

SheBuysTravel Tip: While Disney cruises don’t offer traditional beverage packages, there are multiple ways to save money on drinks on a Disney cruise. These include buying the specially priced drink of the day; joining a beverage tasting; purchasing a refillable beer mug; or even bringing your own alcohol. Adult passengers may bring two bottles of unopened wine or champagne (or six beers) on board in their carry-on luggage.

Best Disney Cruise Itineraries to Book This Fall

The cruise ship Disney Wish is pictured docked at Disney's private island destination Castaway Cay in the Bahamas.
Many Disney Cruise Line itineraries from Florida stop at one or both of Disney Cruise Line’s tropical island destinations. Pictured: Disney Wish at Disney’s Castaway Cay. Photo credit: Linnea Bailey

With a range of 3 to 5-night Bahamian itineraries and 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries, there are plenty of getaway options throughout the fall months aboard Disney ships sailing from Florida. Some itineraries even stop at both of Disney Cruise Line’s tropical island destinations: Castaway Cay and Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.

But for a voyage aboard the hottest new ship of the season, look no further than the all-new Disney Destiny, set to start sailing from Port Everglades in November. Designed around the theme of heroes and villains, the 4,000-passenger vessel will offer 4 and 5-night Bahamian itineraries in November and December and beyond.

Packing Tips for a Fall Disney Cruise

Disney Cruise Line's adult-exclusive lounge The Rose is pictured, with an ornate gold rose design on its ceiling, ample seating and floor-to-ceiling windows with stunning views of the ocean and Nassau in the Bahamas.

For a fall Disney cruise from Florida, sundresses and casual wear are perfectly appropriate. However, the evenings can get chilly, so make sure to pack layers. If you visit any of the adult-exclusive dining experiences onboard (like the always-incredible Palo Steakhouse aboard Disney Wish), plan on formal or semi-formal attire.

You’ll also need appropriate travel documentation; U.S. citizens (including children) will need an original U.S. passport, passport card or Trusted Traveler Card. Other options are original state-issued birth certificate and a government-issued photo ID; an original consular report of birth abroad and a government-issued photo ID; or an original certificate of naturalization and a government-issued photo ID.

SheBuysTravel Tip: Disney Cruise Line has a zero-tolerance policy for items on the “no” list. Prohibited items include weapons, firearms and ammunition, as well as marijuana, illicit drugs and drug paraphernalia.

When to Book Your Fall Disney Cruise for the Best Rates

If there are popular fall holiday dates that you’re after (especially Thanksgiving week), plan to book your Disney cruise as early as when it first hits the market (a year to a year in a half in advance). Other great times to book include known sale and promotional periods like Cyber Monday or Wave season (which runs annually from January through March).

Membership can also pay off; Disney Visa cardmembers can receive various discounts and special offers on Disney Cruises, and Disney Vacation Club members can use Vacation Points for select sailings and onboard discounts.

SheBuysTravel Tip: Travelers may find low prices even if they book last-minute; fall is one of the best seasons to find deals and last-minute availability for Disney cruises.

GEO-82 Bar & Lounge opened at Disney World in May 2025, offering guests a great place to beat the heat and sip a delicious cocktail or mocktail right at the front of Epcot. Although I don’t drink, I wanted to visit this lounge because I heard it was beautiful and because it carries a rich history. In fact, the name GEO-82 honors the geodesic sphere at the front entrance and the year Epcot opened (1982).

Below, I share my review of Epcot’s newest adults-only lounge, GEO-82—an ideal spot for adults-only trips or for parents who leave the kids with grandparents for an hour or two while on vacation.

This meal was hosted but all opinions are my own.

Where is GEO-82 in Epcot?

You’ll find the entrance to GEO-82 inside the Spaceship Earth exit. The lounge sits at the front of Epcot inside the iconic geodesic sphere (hence the name GEO-82)—you can’t miss it. Well, you can, since no sign marks the building from the outside. But when you walk through the post-show exits of Spaceship Earth, you’ll spot an illuminated sign with the lounge’s name and a short hallway leading you to the check-in desk.

After check-in, staff invite you to take the elevator or climb the glistening staircase inspired by Spaceship Earth to reach the main dining area. Once you get upstairs, you’ll be greeted by a host and escorted to your table for your experience.

SheBuysTravel Tip: GEO-82 opens daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. for lunch and dinner. You can make reservations online up to 60 days in advance or join the walk-up list at opening.

Atmosphere at GEO-82

GEO-82 showcases a futuristic interior with copper and metallic accents and geometric overhead lighting. Tall windows in front of the bar frame views of World Celebration and World Showcase, while lounge chairs and booths create a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The upscale vibe still feels casual enough for traditional theme park attire. And since the lounge doesn’t allow children, you’ll enjoy a much quieter space than many other park locations.

SheBuysTravel Tip: Check the lighting fixtures by the bar—you might spot a hidden Mickey!

Menu at GEO-82

crostini, pickles, cheeses, cured meats and honeycomb on a black plate.

The cocktail menu at GEO-82 impressed me with its detail. The first pages included a key describing the type of glassware, ice and preparation for each drink, which helped me know exactly what I was ordering—important when spending $20 on one cocktail.

The small food menu offers shareables like a charcuterie board, funghi flatbread, cannellini hummus, truffled ahi tuna and jumbo lump crab gateau. I recommend the funghi flatbread and the charcuterie board. Cheese lovers in particular should try the truffle cheese—it’s out of this world. These plates also make great snacks if you plan to enjoy a later dinner in the parks or at a resort.

Alcoholic Beverages at GEO-82

Although I don’t drink, friends told me the alcoholic beverages at GEO-82 taste top-notch. The menu includes specialty cocktails, beer and wine. The most popular (and most photographed) drink is the Brown Butter Old Fashioned, which servers prepare tableside with a geodesic-sphere–stamped ice cube.

At nearby tables, I saw guests ordering the High Brow Batanga, which uses GEO-82’s house-made lime cordial syrup. Bourbon drinkers can order an exclusive Disney-select bourbon flight for $49—available only at GEO-82.

Mocktails at GEO-82

A tall glass of a carbonated beverage with a lemon wedge on top of a white coaster.

The non-alcoholic menu includes just two options: A Walk Through the Garden and Manhattan in the Morning. Even though they don’t contain alcohol, both drinks cost $17.

I ordered A Walk Through the Garden, which combines Seedlip Garden 108 with basil, fennel, lemon, Hella Cocktail Co. orange bitters, The Bitter Truth celery bitters and bubbles. The drink tasted like a fancy, carbonated lemonade with a twist.

Is GEO-82 Worth It?

Yes, GEO-82 is worth a visit—especially if you want a quiet, relaxing space to enjoy a drink and stunning views. Keep in mind that Disney doesn’t include this lounge in its Dining Plan so you should plan to pay out of pocket. That said, the lounge makes a great spot to celebrate a special occasion like an anniversary or birthday. If you book your visit around fireworks time, you might even catch the show through the windows depending on where you sit too.

If you’re wondering what the next hot Walt Disney World reservation is, it’s The Beak and Barrel inside The Magic Kingdom. Opening on August 29th, this pirate-themed pub draws inspiration from the beloved ride. As a mom of three, I got to experience the new spot and try the menu before it opens to the public. Plus, I’m sharing my thoughts on bringing the kids.

Walt Disney World hosted our family and invited us to experience The Beak and Barrel before its opening. All opinions are my own.

Sip Amongst A Pirate Story: What is The Beak and Barrel?

Step inside The Beak and Barrel and enter a pirate’s world. Located beside Pirates of the Caribbean in Adventureland, this immersive bar features dim lighting, a carved wooden bar and rich theming from floor to ceiling. Seating options range from cozy booths to communal tables and standing areas.

Look around and you’ll spot mermaid details, pirate lore, and an animatronic parrot named “Rummy.” Occasionally, a tropical storm even rolls through. Designed to engage all five senses, The Beak and Barrel makes every guest feel like the star of their own swashbuckling adventure.

I love how the pub is an extension of the ride. It brings the story to life in a whole new way by introducing Captain Meridian “Merry” Goldwyn as the pub owner. Step inside to enjoy bold pirate libations and soak up the ambiance of a bustling Tortuga tavern. I recommend keeping your eyes peeled because magical surprises are around the corner.

Are you ready to explore more Disney? Let us inspire you!

How to Score a Reservation at The Beak and Barrel

The Beak and Barrel is quickly becoming one of Walt Disney World‘s most sought-after reservations. Opening August 29th, Advance Dining Reservations are already available through the My Disney Experience app.

Due to high demand and to help manage crowds, each reservation is limited to 45 minutes. It’s a system Disney fans may recognize from the launch of Oga’s Cantina at Hollywood Studios. Guests can book dining up to 60 days in advance, and while scoring a spot at The Beak and Barrel may be tricky, it’s definitely possible with some planning.

Feast Like a Buccaneer: The Beak and Barrel Food & Drink

I’m a sucker for a well-themed bar, and The Beak and Barrel delivers, thanks to the Disney Food & Beverage team. They take the short menu to the next level. Light bites and refreshing cocktails are the stars here, each crafted to fit the pirate theme.

Feeling adventurous? Try the Kraken’s Catch, a bold dish featuring octopus tentacles, vegetables, and almond foam. Prefer something familiar? Go for Island Provisions, a classic chips-and-dip option with a tropical twist.

SheBuysTravel Tip: With just 45 minutes per reservation, I recommend browsing the menu on the My Disney Experience app ahead of time. Go in with a game plan: are you craving something sweet or savory?

The Beak and Barrel Menu Items I Recommend

The Treasure Trove drink and dessert plate at The Beak and Barrel.

  • Plunderer’s Punch: As the signature cocktail for The Beak and Barrel, the Plunderer’s Punch combines spiced rum with notes of blackberry, lime and vanilla. It comes at a steep price of $46 USD, but it includes a souvenir pirate mug to take home.
  • Cursed Treasure: A sweet non-alcoholic option, this mocktail blends coconut milk with cookie crumbs and vanilla foam. It’s finished with a chocolate pirate coin. It’s perfect for kids, but I stole some sips.
  • Island Provisions: Chips and dip are a classic bar appetizer, but Disney elevates the dish with plantain chips and flatbread. Mango chutney, garlic Chimichurri, spiced guava and a culantro cream dip are easy to finish during the forty-five-minute reservation slot.
  • Treasure Trove: Sweet tooths meet their match with this dessert and drink combination. An ube and coconut lemonade sits alongside a vanilla cake “plank” with a chocolate cannonball and pirate gold. In short, it’s a cake with a rich truffle and caramel popcorn.

A Family-Friendly Atmosphere That Invites Kids To Join

Kids join the pirate fun at The Beak and Barrel, with Mom.
Kids are welcome to join parents at The Beak and Barrel. Photo credit: Kimberly Stroh

While alcoholic beverages have been available at Magic Kingdom’s Table Service restaurants for some time, The Beak and Barrel marks the park’s first-ever dedicated bar and lounge. Guests aged 21 and over can enjoy alcoholic drinks with a valid ID—but the experience is far from adults-only.

Kids are more than welcome to join in the adventure! With playful non-alcoholic drinks, scavenger hunt activities, and engaging servers who make sure younger guests feel included, it’s a family-friendly atmosphere with something for everyone. My kids especially love the spirited pirate chants, immersive theming, and any excuse to talk (and dress!) like a pirate.

The Beak and Barrel Sets Sail as a Must-Visit Magic Kingdom Stop

Overall, I love seeing this creative extension of the classic ride. Disney Imagineers left no detail untouched. The Beak and Barrel packs every inch with rich theming that pulls you right into the pirate world. As a longtime Jack Sparrow fan, I especially enjoyed spotting subtle nods to his character woven into the pub’s story. Here’s hoping he makes more appearances in the future!

The 45-minute reservation window goes by in a flash, but it’s the perfect amount of time to escape the Florida heat and feel transported. As a mom of three who adores Disney Parks but also craves a well-earned afternoon break, The Beak and Barrel has officially earned a spot on my Magic Kingdom must-do list.

For the first time in nearly 10 years, Walt Disney World has a brand-new nighttime parade — and it’s magnificent.

“Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away” takes place at Walt Disney World Resort’s Magic Kingdom and features glittering floats, a majestic musical score and beloved Disney characters like Tiana, Belle, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Flynn, Aladdin and Jasmine.

The new parade made its big debut along the park’s Main Street U.S.A. on July 20, and we were there opening week to check it out. Here’s everything you need to know about the new parade and how best to see it.

What is Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away?

Costumed characters Jasmine and Aladdin sit on a lit-up parade float shaped like a Magic Carpet, while Minnie and Mickey Mouse wave from a perch above. All are on a glittering parade float at night.

Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away” is the newest evening parade at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. Its predecessors include the Main Street Electrical Parade (which appeared at Magic Kingdom from 1977 to 1991, 1999 to 2001, and 2010 to 2016) and SpectroMagic (at Magic Kingdom from 1991 to 1999, then again from 2001 to 2010).

The brand-new parade features sparkling floats carrying Disney characters, a sweeping original musical theme and a team of performers dancing to all-new choreography. The floats (and some of the performers’ costumes) shimmer with millions of LED lights that are synchronized with the music, creating an immersive, magical experience.

Must-See Moments in Disney World’s New Nighttime Parade

A performer is perched atop a high float covered in glittering lights during an evening parade. The performer is dressed as the Blue Fairy from Pinocchio and is holding a wand shaped like a star high in the air.

“Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away” features 10 glittering floats, in addition to dancers and characters that help enhance the parade’s storyline.

Some of my favorites were the parade’s opening float that pays homage to the Main Street Electrical Parade, featuring the Blue Fairy from Disney’s 1940 film Pinocchio; a float featuring Asha beneath the wishing tree from Disney’s 2023 film Wish; and a gorgeously detailed float depicting Moana (from Disney’s 2016 film) sailing on her boat.

A special treat is the parade’s final float: a whimsical train (another nod to the Main Street Electrical Parade), pulling carriages filled with Disney characters.

Disney characters featured in the parade include:

  • The Blue Fairy (Pinocchio)
  • Peter Pan, Wendy and Tinkerbell (Peter Pan)
  • Asha (Wish)
  • Mirabel, Isabela and Bruno (Encanto)
  • Elsa (Frozen)
  • Aurora and Prince Phillip (Sleeping Beauty)
  • Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen (The Princess and the Frog)
  • Belle and the Beast (Beauty and the Beast)
  • Cinderella and Prince Charming (Cinderella)
  • Miguel and Pepita (Coco)
  • Moana (Moana)
  • Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Pluto and Donald and Daisy Duck
  • Snow White and Dopey (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs)
  • Rapunzel and Flynn (Tangled)
  • Aladdin and Jasmine (Aladdin)

SheBuysTravel Tip: The only character who interacts directly with guests from the ground is Tinkerbell (the others are riding on floats) – so if you have a particular favorite character whose attention you want to catch, be ready to wave big so they see you. My daughter got a huge wave from Asha on the Wish float, which made her evening.

Best Viewing Spots for Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away

Crowds of people are seated on either side of a parade route at Disney's Magic Kingdom, with Cinderella's Castle pictured on the left side behind them.
During opening week, the area in front of Cinderella Castle was one of the most popular spots to watch the new evening parade at Walt Disney World Resort’s Magic Kingdom. Photo credit: Linnea Bailey

The parade’s route begins on Main Street, U.S.A. and travels along Disney’s parade route towards Frontierland.

Because many guests plan to leave after the first nightly parade or fireworks show, the spots along Main Street, U.S.A. and in front of Cinderella Castle fill up quickly. When we were there, the area in front of the castle was packed with parkgoers staking out their spots 90 minutes before the start of the first parade.

We found the best spots were farther down the parade route. We found great seats in front of The Hall of Presidents in Liberty Square, and I spotted other uncrowded spots outside of Country Bear Musical Jamboree in Frontierland.

How to Plan for Disney’s New Evening Parade with Kids

A performer dressed as Moana is perched on a float meant to look like a boat sailing on glittering waves. The float is covered with sparkling lights, and the photo is taken at night, so everything shimmers.

When deciding how to watch the parade, first decide between the two parade times. The 9 p.m. parade allows for earlier bedtimes, but it also means larger crowds and a long wait for prime seats.

If you opt for the first parade, claim a spot along the parade route early and make sure to have plenty of snacks (I highly recommend the new Starlight-themed popcorn mix available at Main Street Confectionary). There are also vendors selling themed merchandise to keep kids occupied, such as light-up bubble wands.

Our family stayed up for the second parade, and I’m glad we did; the 11 p.m. parade had plenty of open seating and no crowds.

When and Where to Watch the New Parade at Magic Kingdom

Actors dressed as Bruno and Mirabel from Disney's film Encanto smile and wave from a sparkling parade float. The float is covered in tiny colorful lights, and the photo is taken at night, so the float shimmers.
Bruno and Mirabel wave from a float in the evening parade “Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away” at Walt Disney World Resort’s Magic Kingdom. Photo credit: Linnea Bailey

“Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away” takes place at 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. each night, with the nightly “Happily Ever After” fireworks show scheduled for 10 p.m.

One exception is during special ticketed seasonal events like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party (which have their own parades); inclement weather can also affect the schedule.

SheBuysTravel Tip: The parade itself is only 12 minutes long, though its start time will depend on where you’re sitting. At our spot in Liberty Square, the parade began about 15 minutes later than those watching it from the start of the parade route. So if you’re hoping to catch one more ride before the parade starts, plan to watch it from Liberty Square or Frontierland.

Where to Stay

Modern cabins are pictured in a forest, with paved walkways and steps leading up to each porch.

One of my fondest childhood memories is of camping at Disney’s Fort Wilderness and Campground and spending the day at Disney’s Magic Kingdom, then watching the SpectoMagic parade at night. It was unforgettable, and I decided to recreate the experience with my own family.

We got a great summer rate at the newest Disney Vacation Club Resort: the posh new Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort. The cabins are gorgeous, and we spent our time at the resort roasting s’mores at Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Campfire Sing-A-Long, swimming at Meadow Swimmin’ Pool and exploring the resort by golf cart.

SheBuysTravel Tip: Since the timing of the parades is late, the ease of Disney transportation is a huge plus. By staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, you’ll have access to continuous transportation options until one hour after the theme parks close. We were able to easily catch a boat back to Fort Wilderness following the second evening parade at Magic Kingdom.

A Disney Cruise is one of our favorite family vacations—and easily one of the best for kids. There’s something for everyone, and as a mom, it’s one of the few trips where I feel like I actually get a break, too! Our kids loved the clubs at every age, from playtime fun to teen hangouts at Vibe.

One beloved tradition among Disney Cruise fans is decorating cabin doors. In this guide, we’ll show you where to buy fun magnets—and how to create your own with free templates and easy DIY steps to add a personal, budget-friendly touch.

Stateroom Door Decoration Tips for Your First Disney Cruise

Years ago, a clever person (I always wondered who it was) realized that the stateroom doors on a Disney cruise are metal and, therefore, magnets will stick to them. In the years since, decorating your door has become a beloved Disney Cruise tradition whether you’re sailing on the Disney Magic, Dream, Wish, Fantasy or Wonder.

Let us inspire your travels! Sign up for our newsletter now.

Where can I get Disney Stateroom Door Magnets?

It’s now easy and very inexpensive to laminate your items at home. You can easily find a home lamination machine and sheets at your local big box store. Photo credit: Melissa Mortenson

There are many places that sell magnets specifically designed for a DCL stateroom door. You can find them on Etsy or Amazon. You can also make your own magnets! It’s super easy, and you DO NOT need to be crafty to do this!

Making your own Disney Cruise Line magnets is a great way to save money for your vacation! We have a free printable template for you and the supplies to create the magnets are affordable (you might even have a lot of them around your house already).

What Types of Magnets Do You See on Doors on a Disney Cruise?

Moms get vacations too on a Disney Cruise. Photo credit: Melissa Mortenson

There are so many fun ways to celebrate on your Disney Cruise; door magnets are just one of them. If you’re on a special sailing like the Marvel, Pixar or Star Wars Day at Sea, you’ll see a lot of themed magnets on doors.

You’ll also see a lot of seasonal magnets for those on a Holiday or Halloween cruise. We cruised one year on Easter and there were a lot of cute Mickey Mouse magnets with Easter Bunny ears on doors.

You will often see several magnets on the door, with family names. This comes in handy if your teens make friends with other kids in the Teen Club. That way, their friends can leave them notes on the small fish clipboard next to the cabin door.

Other Ways to Decorate a Disney Cruise Stateroom Door

You never know when a stormtrooper will swing by the pool. It’s just one of the fun surprises on a Disney Cruise. Photo credit: Melissa Mortenson

In addition to magnets, you’ll also find small whiteboards and fish extenders on doors.

The whiteboards allow families traveling together in separate cabins to leave messages for one another. (We used them a lot when we traveled with our kids when they were teens, since we let them roam the ship with their friends).

A fish extender is a bag or pouch (like a skinny over-the-door shoe organizer) hung from the metal fish next to each cabin door on a cruise ship. It has a pocket and people leave messages and treats for one another in the pockets.

Free Disney Door Magnets Printable

We have a fun — and free! — printable Mickey Door Decoration for you.

The free printable includes several Mickey silhouettes with different hats, allowing you to create one for each member of your family.

Included are:

  1. Simple Mickey Mouse
  2. Minnie Mouse with Bow (in 3 different colors)
  3. Pirate Mickey (swap out your other Disney magnet with this one on Pirate Night on the ship)
  4. Sailor Mickey
  5. Santa Hat Mickey (great for Holiday sailings)
  6. Witch Hat Mickey (if you’re lucky enough to be sailing on a Halloween on the High Seas voyage).
  7. “The ______ Family” Mickey – ready for you to personalize with letter stickers.

How To Make Disney Cruise Door Magnets

Supplies:

  • Cardstock or Printable Magnetic Sheets
  • Adhesive Magnetic Strips if using Cardstock
  • Scissors
  • Optional:
  • Letter Stickers
  • Lamination Machine (you can also have them laminated at an office supply store)

Option 1:

Print on magnet paper and cut out.

Option 2:

Print on Cardstock, Laminate, and add magnets.

This is the method I prefer. It’s more cost-effective as printable magnet sheets can be expensive. You are also more likely to run into printing problems due to the thickness of the sheets.

Lamination is inexpensive and easy, you can take the door magnets to your local copy shop to have them laminated, or use a home laminator. There are a lot of great ones on the market.

Also, using this method makes it easy to add letter stickers to your images to personalize your magnets.

How Do I Personalize the Magnets?

disney cruise door magnets tutorial
Be sure to print your images on cardstock so that they hold up well for traveling. Photo credit: Melissa Mortenson

There are a few ways to personalize the Disney Cruise magnet template freebie that we have for you.

  1. You can upload the PDF to an online graphics software (like PicMonkey or Canva)
  2. If you have a machine like a Cricut, you can cut out letters from Vinyl and adhere them to the cardstock.
  3. You can use letter stickers.

If you’re someone who’s not super crafty, I recommend going the letter sticker route. There’s not any technology to fuss with and you don’t need any special craft tools. Just a pair of sharp scissors.

What Free Disney Font Should I Use?

If you choose to customize your magnet using online software like PicMonkey or cut out a name with a Cricut machine, you’re going to want to use a fun Disney font!

If you want to go for classic Disney, I recommend Waltograph. You can also infuse a bit of other “Disney Magic’ into your design by using an Avengers-inspired font like Avengero. Or a Nemo-inspired font like Lost Fish.

How to Assemble Your Family Disney Magnets

Print out the template from our free download. The download contains several pages, you only need to print the pages with the images you’d like to use.

Step One: Print

Be sure to print the image on cardstock, so your magnet will hold up well!

If you want to personalize your magnet, you can use one of the options I mentioned above.

disney cruise door magnets tutorial
It’s so easy to personalize your signs with stickers from the craft store. Photo credit: Melissa Mortenson

Step Two: Personalize

I personalized my magnets using letter stickers I got at the craft store.

SheBuysTravel Tip: Line up your letter stickers on a ruler first. Just place the bottom edge of the sticker on the edge of the ruler. You can rearrange the stickers and check the placement before you adhere them to your Mickey’s head.

When you’ve got the stickers in the place you’d like, adhere the stickers starting with the top, then gently pull away from the ruler from underneath.

disney cruise door magnets tutorial
Be sure to apply your stickers before you laminate your creations. Photo credit: Melissa Mortenson

Step 3: Finishing

To finish your customized cruise door magnet, simply run the image through a laminator and cut it out with scissors.

disney cruise door magnets tutorial
Use sharp scissors to cut out your images after they are laminated. Photo credit: Melissa Mortenson

Adhere some magnet strips to the back so that they will stick to your stateroom door.

SheBuysTravel Tip: You’re going to need more magnets than you think you do! We also recommend taking a few extra adhesive magnet strips with you on your cruise in case any of the magnets fall off during transport.

disney cruise door magnets
Make sure the magnets adhere well to the back of your sign. Photo credit: Melissa Mortenson

If you have a hot glue gun, you can use it to adhere the magnet strips to the back. It will be a bit more secure than the glue that comes already applied to the magnet strip.

Where to Buy Disney Cruise Door Decorations

If you don’t want to DIY a cute set of Disney door magnets, don’t stress! You can easily buy some. Just make sure you order them with plenty of time for them to arrive before your Disney Cruise Line Vacation.

If you want a set of personalized magnets I recommend Etsy. There are several sellers there that will customize your magnet set with names or dates.

You can also find several styles of magnets on Amazon.

One of Walt Disney World’s most family-friendly hotels just got a dazzling makeover, and we stayed there to check out the redesigned space.

The Swan hotel, part of the legendary Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort, has renovated all 756 guest rooms and suites, making them brighter, cozier and more comfortable for families. The renovation is part of a $275 million transformation project that will also expand the hotel’s event spaces.

Our family of five stayed in a multi-room suite during a recent trip to Orlando’s Walt Disney World. Here’s what we loved most, plus what to know before planning your own trip.

A Resort with a Celebrated Disney Legacy

An ornate coral-and-turquoise hotel is pictured in daylight, topped by enormous Swan statues on its rooftop. A boat is traveling in the waterway in front of the hotel.

One of three hotels that comprise the iconic Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort (along with the Dolphin hotel and the Swan Reserve), the Swan hotel has been beloved by guests ever since its opening in 1990. At the time, the resort was the largest hotel convention space in the Southeastern U.S.

With a distinct postmodern design by the late architect Michael Graves, the turquoise-and-coral resort has long been a famed Walt Disney World Resort landmark. The Swan hotel is topped by two towering swan statues, while the Dolphin hotel features rooftop dolphin statues. The Swan Reserve, which opened in 2021, offers a more contemporary and minimalist design.

The Room Updates That Make a Big Difference for Families

While the Swan hotel’s exterior hasn’t changed, its lobby, hallways, guest rooms and suites have all been updated.

Gone are the rooms’ luxe carpets, regal headboards and elegant drapes. In their place are beautifully bright and stylish living spaces, with high-quality wood furnishings, modern lighting and a cozy design.

Our suite featured two bedrooms, three full bathrooms and a giant living room, perfect for playtime and lounging. There was also a dining room and bar area, ideal for entertaining and eating together as a family. My kids (ages 8, 5 and 5) loved the chance to spread out and play.

A Location That’s One of Walt Disney World’s Best

While there are many fabulous resorts at Disney, the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort boasts an exceptional location.

Centrally located along Disney’s Crescent Lake, guests can walk to both EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and the resort is only three miles from Disney Springs (with complimentary bus transportation to Disney Springs and the theme parks).

The resort is also just steps from one of my favorite spots: Disney’s BoardWalk, a Coney Island-style waterfront promenade of restaurants, shops and nightlife. There, you can find nightly “Movies Under The Stars” outside Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, and street performers entertain along the promenade.

Family-Friendly Dining at the Swan and Dolphin

The Swan and Dolphin hotels are connected by a covered causeway across a scenic lagoon; the Swan Reserve is located across the street. It’s easy to walk between the three hotels, and with 23 restaurants and lounges onsite, there are plenty of dining options.

At the Swan hotel, we savored Belgian waffles and omelets for breakfast at the stunning, light-filled Garden Grove restaurant: a tranquil space with a 25-foot tree as its centerpiece. For dinner, we strolled to the Dolphin hotel for guacamole prepared tableside and sizzling fajitas at Rosa Mexicano, a lively restaurant framed by vibrant murals.

Little Perks and Surprises You’ll Only Notice If You Stay Here

With incredible architectural designs found throughout the resort (including prominent swan and dolphin water fountains in each of the hotel lobbies), there are plenty of surprises to be found.

At the on-the-go dining venue Fuel at the Dolphin hotel, we were thrilled to find a self-serve yogurt area serving the famous Disney treat Dole Whip. There are also five swimming pools, a kids club, three fitness centers and a spa; right next door is a Fantasia-themed miniature golf course.

SheBuysTravel Tip: The resort offers complimentary boat access to Disney’s BoardWalk, EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Even if you’re not headed to the theme parks, don’t miss the chance to take a relaxing evening boat ride on one of Disney’s Friendship Boats.

The Benefits of Staying at Either the Swan or Dolphin Hotels

Our suite’s balcony featured stunning views of EPCOT’s nightly fireworks display, the Dolphin hotel and the scenic bridge to Disney’s BoardWalk.

Part of the Disney Collection, the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort is in a category of its own. It’s considered a Deluxe Disney Resort yet is managed by Marriott, so travelers can enjoy the benefits of both.

While guests may not get all the perks of staying at a Disney-operated resort (a Disney MagicBand+ won’t work as a room key here), guests do enjoy many of the same benefits, such as access to Disney’s early theme park entry and extended evening theme park hours.

Pro Tips for Booking (and Scoring the Best Rates)

Since the resort is a Marriott property, guests can book with Marriott Bonvoy points when booking or through credit card travel portals like Chase Travel. The hotel’s rates are often more affordable than Disney-owned Deluxe resorts, making it a great choice for families looking to balance budget with convenience.

It’s impossible to decide which of the resort’s three hotels are better. You can’t go wrong with any of them; they’re so interconnected that it’s easy to enjoy the resort’s many benefits at any of the three (though we’re partial to the Swan hotel’s gorgeous renovations!).

SheBuysTravel Tip: The resort often offers exclusive discounts for special seasons and for guests in specific professions like nurses, teachers and first responders; be sure to visit the resort’s special offers page for the latest deals.
