Overall Impressions
I can’t imagine a more perfect romantic escape than MIRA Earth Studios. Perched in the sun-drenched hills of Valle de Guadalupe, less than two hours south of San Diego, MIRA is a masterclass in eco-luxury. This adults-only retreat offers a stunning blend of rugged nature and thoughtful design, where ten rammed-earth studios with floor-to-ceiling windows gaze out over Mexico’s wine country.
Each room is a private sanctuary, complete with a private Jacuzzi, sauna, fire pit and curated minibar. It’s the ideal escape for couples seeking to unplug, reconnect, and sip on the region’s finest vintages from their own secluded hideaway.
This trip was hosted but all opinions are my own.

Accommodations

Each of the ten studios are built into the earth giving them a cave-like feel. Glass doors slide open to a private terrace with wide-angle views over the Guadalupe Valley, a gas fire pit, and a sunken hot tub that became my go-to spot at night. More than once I cracked open the s’mores kit, used the fire pit to warm up the marshmallow and ate them soaking in the hot tub watching the star-filled sky.
The space inside pairs minimalist lines with thoughtful touches like a king bed with crisp linens, a rainfall shower, and an infrared sauna.. The kitchenette is stocked like someone knew exactly what I’d want after a day in the Valle—local wines, artisanal snacks, and enough coffee gear to make my morning pour-over a ritual.
SheBuysTravel Tip: Don’t miss sunrise from your bed. In the morning use the remote to lift the blackout shades and watch the first light pour over the valley through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
SheBuysTravel Tip: Skip the airport stress — Lyft’s On-Time Pickup Promise guarantees your scheduled ride shows up within 10 minutes of your pickup time. If it doesn’t? You’ll get Lyft Cash. You can schedule up to 90 days in advance and even lock in your rate. Use code SBT25 to save 25% off ONE scheduled ride to the airport.

Onsite Dining

The new onsite restaurant, Mira Poolside, is a collaboration with Chef José Luis Hinostroza. Enjoy delicious “poolside bites” such as fresh shellfish with spicy aguachile and DIY wagyu tacos. The menu is perfect for a relaxed afternoon. The bar serves barreled wine spritzers and local craft beer.
For in-room dining, we ordered a breakfast basket and enjoyed the convenience of the well-stocked kitchenette, which included local coffee and frozen pizzas from Tanto Santo Pizzeria.
Onsite Entertainment

While MIRA is about disconnecting, there’s still plenty to do. The infinity pool deck at Mira Poolside is the main hub, with wooden pergolas, low-seated lounge areas, and a DJ booth. The private hot tubs on each terrace provide a romantic and intimate form of entertainment, especially under the starry night sky. The property itself is perfect for a short hike to appreciate the natural surroundings.
Excursions

The Valle de Guadalupe is the heart of Mexico’s wine country with a long list of wineries all within a short drive. Monte Xanic is one of the valley’s most established wineries known for its panoramic tasting room where you can sample the region’s mineral-driven whites to full-bodied red while overlooking the surrounding hills.
With great wine come great food. There are many Michelin-starred and Green Star restaurants in the region including Animalón, Olivea Farm to Table and Lunario. Many spotlight local ingredients, open-air dining, and inventive takes on Baja flavors. With so many clustered close together, it’s easy to pair a day of tastings with a standout meal.
What’s Nearby

If you’re craving seafood, drive 30 minutes west to Ensenada. I had the best oysters of my life from El Güero – a seafood card one block from the ocean. From there, wander over to Hussong’s Cantina, Baja’s oldest bar, pouring drinks since 1892 and rumored to be the birthplace of the margarita. Before heading back to the valley, stop at Mercado Negro, Ensenada’s bustling fish market, where you can browse stalls stacked with fresh catch and pick up a ceviche to-go.
Getting There
Fly into San Diego or Tijuana. The quickest option is to use Cross Border Xpress, a pedestrian bridge from the U.S. directly into Tijuana’s airport, then rent a car for the two-hour drive to MIRA. The hotel can also arrange private transfers from Tijuana (about US$260 each way for two).
Driving from San Diego via the San Ysidro crossing takes 1.5–2 hours, depending on wait times. Mexican auto liability insurance is required, and most U.S. rental cars can’t be taken into Mexico—renting in Tijuana is the simplest route.
